“Dancing through the Storm”
A Juneteenth Healing Experience
What is Juneteenth?
On June 19, 1865; Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas announcing the end of the Civil War, and that enslaved Africans were free. It's important to remember that the emancipation proclamation was signed by President Lincoln on January 1, 1863, almost 2.5 years earlier. Juneteenth is festival held annually on the nineteenth of June by African Americans (especially in the southern states), to commemorate emancipation from slavery in Texas on that day in 1865.
Black folks have always been free-ish in body, yet whole in spirit.

Black folks need to take a collective breath for community healing. This curated interfaith event centers the Black Healing experience through music, chanting, meditation, ritual, preaching, dancing, and so much more.
It is clear which voices have been systematically excluded from faith and spiritual spaces. Juneteenth is our opportunity for a reprieve that builds community, connectivity and joy, in a world that would rather see us silenced and bound.
Some front lines are in the spirit realm: Unbought, unbound.
This event is powered by Venia Media LLC, a production initiative that seeks to create multimedia artistic experiences that elevate the voices of the systemically unheard. Along with many artists, writers, thinkers, ministers, clergy, organizers and folks who keep a prayer on their lips, this event is what community collaboration looks like.
